À la fois saisissant et intime, Us and Them réunit une série de photographies prises par Helmut Newton et son épouse, Alice Springs. Mélangeant vie privée et vie publique du couple, le recueil se compose de cinq parties où alternent les points de vue sur leur univers personnel, intérieur et tendre, et les rencontres glamour faites dans leur vie sociale et professionnelle. Dans la section « Us », Newton et Springs se photographient tantôt ensemble, tantôt l'un l'autre. Arresting and intimate in equal measure, Us and Them gathers a sequence of photographs by Helmut Newton and his wife, Alice Springs. Incorporating the pair's private as well as public life, the collection is arranged into five sections, alternating the gaze between their own tender, internal world, and the glamorous encounters of their social and professional milieu. In the « Us » sections, Newton and Springs take turns photographing themselves and each other. In the conclusiding « Them » chapter, they both turn their cameras to the same, typically famous, subject, from Catherine Deneuve to Gianni Versace. The result is an elegant and touching counterpoint of symmetry and difference, allowing two independent visions to exist within a shared life and enduring love.

Faszinierend und innig ist die von Helmut Newton und seiner Frau Alice Springs für Us and Them kuratierte Serie von Fotografïen. Hier haben sie Werke aus fünf Perspektiven zusammengestellt, die sowohl das private, vertraute als auch das öffentliche, glamouröse Leben des Paares dokumentieren : Die Kapitel zum Thema « Us » zeigen Selbstporträts und Porträts von Springs und Newton. Im abschlie(...)enden Teil « Them » hingegen richten beide ihre Kameraobjektive auf dieselben, meist prominenten Motive von Catherine Deneuve bis Gianni Versace.
