Ringed by mountains the Grenoble university campus is reputedly one of France's finest, marked by powerful architecture, symptomatic of the context in which it started life and the changes of the subsequent 50 years. It is also an astonishing artistic manifesto, illustrated by the many works of art scattered across its lawns and patios.

This book presents the exceptional heritage of the campus, spanning the past 50 years, from the construction of the first buildings amidst the cabbage fields to today's 180-hectare parkland campus, served by three tram lines. From the Weil amphitheatre to the arboretum and the gardens hidden inside emblematic 1960s structures, it highlights the tiniest details of a seat of learning used every day by some 40,000 students, researchers and faculty members.
